Imago Dei
There was a time when I was struggling to find my purpose. I prayed to God, asking Him to heal my physical ailments. I thought that if He healed me, it would be easier to testify about His greatness and love. But He did not grant that request, and it left me feeling misplaced and ashamed. I wondered, “How am I supposed to share the gospel with all this brokenness and imperfection?”
Then He reminded me of Genesis 1:26: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Despite my brokenness and imperfections, I still bear the image of the living God — the Imago Dei. It is not my inadequacies that define me, but the One who has entrusted me with His message. My role is simple: to carry His presence wherever He wants to go.
Much like the plain car in a presidential motorcade that looks out of place — yet carries the most important passenger — I might feel like I do not belong. But the only thing that justifies my presence is the One I carry inside me. Just as that car becomes the most important vehicle in the convoy, I carry God’s presence through the Holy Spirit. His stamp on me is what gives my life significance.
God’s mission for us is not like Mission: Impossible, where failure means disavowal. Instead, He tells us: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Even when we falter or feel broken, He never disavows us. In fact, He forgave us and died for us on the cross — and He works all things together for good, according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Whatever you feel about your life today, remember that we all share the same mission: to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18–20). It is His mission, not ours. He is the Shepherd. We are merely disciples helping other disciples.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, laying down our fears, insecurities, and brokenness at Your feet. You have marked us with Your Spirit, and it is Your presence within us that gives our lives meaning and purpose. Help us to trust You fully and follow wherever You lead. Let Your Spirit guide our every step, and may our lives reflect Your glory in all we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
