Earning Call

by Royce

Scripture: “For to everyone who has [and values his blessings and gifts from God, and has used them wisely], more will be given, and [he will be richly supplied so that] he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have [because he has ignored or disregarded his blessings and gifts from God], even what he does have will be taken away.” — Matthew 25:29, AMP

Devotional:

In corporate operations, one of the most anticipated events is the earnings call. This quarterly conference between management, investors, analysts, and the media reviews the financial performance of a company. Its significance lies in the fact that it directly impacts the company’s stock price. Investors, seeking to maximize their returns, assess how well the company has performed and gauge the future prospects. The more confident they are in the company’s leadership, the more likely they are to invest further. If trust falters, investments diminish.

The pressure to show positive financial performance drives management to focus intently on profits. In many cases, their personal compensation is tied to the company’s earnings, incentivizing them to ensure growth. Success is measured by increase.

This corporate mentality can sometimes shape how we view our relationship with God. In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we see a similar principle. The master entrusted his servants with different amounts of money (talents), expecting them to multiply it. Those who did so were praised and rewarded, while the servant who buried his talent out of fear was punished. In a way, this parable can be seen as God’s own “earnings call” with us. He expects us to take what He has given—our time, talents, resources, and opportunities—and multiply it for His glory.

But there is a fundamental difference between God and Wall Street. Wall Street’s focus is purely on financial gain, often tied to self-interest and immediate results. God’s earnings call is not about material wealth; it’s about faithfulness and fruitfulness in His Kingdom. He measures success not by numbers, but by obedience and growth in spiritual maturity.

While corporations reward profit, God rewards stewardship. The gifts He gives us are not meant solely for personal gain but to bless others and advance His purposes on earth. We are called to invest our talents, time, and resources in ways that reflect His love and truth. As Jesus said, we should let our “light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

In God’s Kingdom, the ultimate return is not measured in earthly success but in souls. His desire is for “everyone to be saved and to fully understand the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). The truth is that “there is only one God, and there is only one way that people can reach God. That way is through Christ Jesus, who, as a man, gave Himself to pay for everyone to be free” (1 Timothy 2:5-6).

This is the true “earnings call” that God cares about: seeing lives transformed, people set free, and His message of redemption spread throughout the world. Every act of obedience, no matter how small, contributes to this eternal purpose. When we faithfully steward the gifts He has entrusted to us, we participate in His grand design of reconciling the world to Himself.

In the end, what matters most isn’t the return on earthly investments, but the eternal impact of our faithfulness. Just as investors trust companies to grow their assets, God entrusts us with His Kingdom work, expecting us to multiply His influence through our lives. Let’s live in such a way that when our “earnings call” comes before God, we will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).

Reflection:
As you consider your life, how are you using the gifts and opportunities God has given you? Are you investing them for His glory, or have you been hesitant, fearing failure or inadequacy? God’s measure of success isn’t based on worldly standards but on faithfulness. He calls us to step out in faith, trusting that He will multiply our efforts when we work for His Kingdom.

Take a moment to reflect on areas where you may be “burying” the talents God has entrusted to you. Whether it’s your time, resources, or unique abilities, are you holding back, or are you allowing God to use them for His purposes? Remember, the ultimate return God seeks is not for personal gain, but for lives to be changed and souls to be saved. How will you respond to His call to steward these gifts for eternal impact?

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gifts, talents, and opportunities You have entrusted to us. Help us to be faithful stewards, not driven by fear or self-interest, but by a desire to glorify You in all that we do. Teach us to invest wisely in Your Kingdom, knowing that the ultimate reward is not material gain but lives transformed by Your love and truth.

Lord, give us the courage to step out in faith, to use our time, talents, and resources for Your purposes. Help us to shine our light so that others may see our good deeds and be drawn to You. May we live each day with the awareness that we are part of Your greater plan for salvation, and may we be found faithful when our “earnings call” comes before You.

In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
