Seek First The Kingdom

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33

Jesus called us to prioritize our relationship with God and His values in our careers. It reminds us that our ultimate purpose and fulfillment in our work should come from serving God and seeking His righteousness.

This means that we as marketplace missionaries should strive to conduct ourselves with integrity, honesty, and excellence in all that we do. We should seek to serve others through our work, whether it be our clients, customers, or colleagues, and to make a positive impact in the world.

We should also prioritize our personal and spiritual growth, seeking to deepen our relationship with God through prayer, worship, and studying His word. By doing so, we can better discern His will for our careers and be empowered to make decisions that align with His values.

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13 that whatever you do, if you don’t do it out of love then you gain nothing. In the end only 3 things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (v13). Jesus at the night before His crucifixion also gave us a new command to love one another as He loved us. So receiving God’s love and extending it to others should be our north star in everything we do.

When we seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness in our professional lives, we can trust that He will provide for our needs, guide us in our decisions, and use us to make a positive impact in the world.

Reflections

  1. How am I currently prioritizing seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness in my business or career?
  2. How do I balance my personal and spiritual growth with my professional responsibilities?
  3. How does my professional identity align with my identity in Christ?

Have a great weekend everyone, see you all next Wednesday.
